Charlotte men's tennis reached unprecedented heights after the 2012 season, placing four of the six singles starters on the Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis All-Conference teams, announced today. In another first, for Charlotte, all four were freshmen. Kamil Khalil (Moscow, Russia) and Jack Williams (Alpharetta, Ga.) were named to the first team, while Alex Calott (Charlotte, N.C. / Ardrey Kell HS) and Paul Cisti (Arcachon, France) were named to the second team. Charlotte's lone senior, Anthony Davison (Derby, England) was also named to the Honorable Mention list by the league.
Charlotte had three players named All-Conference USA in 2001 and three players named All-Atlantic 10 in 2007, but never four in the same season.
Williams finished with a 16-15 mark, which included 12 wins at the number-one spot in the lineup. Khalil ended the year 13-3 after joining the team at the semester break. He was 9-1 as Charlotte's number-two player.
Calott was 18-12 in singles, playing mostly at number-three for the 49ers, while Cisti finished 17-17, the most decisions for a player on the roster this season. He played mostly at the number-four spot for Charlotte.
In doubles play, Calott and Williams represented Charlotte's top doubles pair, with six wins in dual match play this season. Callott had 12 doubles, with Williams turning in 11 wins in doubles in his first collegiate season.
Khalil teamed with junior Krysztof Kwasniewicz, who finished 10-4 as a tandem, Charlotte's best doubles record.
Cisti and Davison won six matches together for the 49ers. He tallied 11 doubles wins for the 49ers this season.
Davison was 16-12 in singles, finishing with a 12-4 record at number-five for Charlotte. He tallied nine doubles wins for the 49ers. He won his last five matches in singles for Charlotte. He finished his career with a 53-52 mark in singles play, tallying 29 doubles wins in four years with the 49ers. He was 10-5 in conference matches while with the 49ers.
Charlotte will dedicate its brand-new tennis facility on Friday, April 27. The 49ers were 15-8 in 2012, after an eight-win year in the first year of head coach Billy Boykin with the 49ers. The Niners were the top seed in the 2012 Atlantic 10 Conference Championships, losing in the semifinals to eventual champion George Washington. Charlotte returns nearly 100 singles wins from this year's squad into a promising 2013 season in their new home, the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex.
