Joey Maxon begins his third season with the 49ers this season after head coach Ryan Cabbage brought him in in August of 2011 as his assistant. In his first season, he assisted the Niners to their school-record eighth-straight NCAA Regional appearance followed by a ninth in 2013.

He assists Coach Cabbage with all aspects of the program, while possessing a particular speciality in club fitting and repair. He and Coach Cabbage break off individually to maximize their assistance during tournament rounds, assisting players in all aspects of their game in competition.

A two-time all-America at Clemson University, Maxon served as an Assistant Golf Coach at East Tennessee State in 2010-11 after a stint as Teaching Professional at Maxongolf from 2007-2010.  In his playing career at Clemson, Maxon helped the Tigers to two top three NCAA Championship finishes and a pair of ACC Championships.  He won one tournament title in his career and posted 14 top 10 finishes, including a pair at the NCAA Championships.  He was team co-captain for the 1997-98 season.

After graduating in 1998 with a degree in Business Management, Maxon enjoyed a professional playing career from 1998-2006.  He competed in two US Opens among other events on the PGA Tour and won 11 mini-tour events, including multiple events on the Hooters and eGolf tours.
