Cory Alexander is in her third season as a member of the Charlotte 49ers women's soccer coaching staff. She joined the 49ers coaching staff after a successful playing career with the W-League's Charlotte Lady Eagles.
"Cory is our energizer," Charlotte coach John Cullen said. "She is a relentless young lady/coach. She is a hard worker and upbeat every day [which is] important on a day-to-day basis, especially when running a soccer program when you have that member of staff who can really keep everyone going, honest and motivated.
"With Cory being a former defensive player, as well, she takes great pride in how we defend so we give her a lot of responsibility with the defending group. Cory's strength is the day-to-day management of the players. She does a great job of balancing the role of coach and friend to the players. I think she does a great job keeping the players honest and motivated and keeping them accountable on and off the field."
Alexander joined the 49ers coaching staff after a four-year playing career (2005-08) as an outside back for the W-League's Charlotte Lady Eagles.
Since 2006, she has been traveling regularly to Brazil to play soccer. She played for the Santos Futebol Clube as well as futsal, which is indoor soccer in Brazil. In 2009, she helped start the Brazil Eagles which was mirrored after the Charlotte Eagles. She also taught English in Brazil.
The Los Angeles, California native enjoyed a stellar playing career at Biola University in La Mirada, California. Alexander, who was Biola's Defensive MVP three times, was a four-time All-Golden State Athletic Conference selection.
She is no stranger to coaching after serving two years on the coaching staff at California's Whittier Christian High School. She also coached at Charlotte Latin, served on the staff for the Charlotte Eagles summer camps for five years, and is currently coaching in her third season with her U-13 girls' team with FC Carolina Alliance. She is a part of the NC ODP coaching staff for two years and a head coach for the 2000 girls' team.
In 2005, she graduated from Biola with a degree in Business Marketing. She earned NAIA Scholar All-American honors during her collegiate career.
"It was incredible, this past year, to be part of a program with such a rich and successful history while at the same time being surrounded by, and working with, great people," Alexander said. "We are excited to welcome into our family 11 new faces to not only share in this tradition, but also to make a new imprint in Charlotte's history."
