Miltimore-Wallis Athletic Training and Academic Center

Opened: 2003

Connected to the Barnhardt Student Activity Center, The Miltimore-Wallis ATAC Building includes several support services for the 49ers student-athletes, including an academic center, strength and conditioning weight room and practice court.

  • The Athletic Academic Center is housed on the second floor of the Miltimore-Wallis Athletics Training and Academic Center. The center is equipped with Dell computer terminals, study hall facilities, meeting space and tutor carrels. Three full-time athletic academic advisors and a stock of tutors oversee the first-class facility that has helped the 49ers maintain a cumulative GPA of over 3.00.
  • The Charles Hayward Memorial Practice Court is named in honor of former 49ers men’s basketball player Charles Hayward. Hayward valiantly battled Leukemia in his first two years with the 49ers, before he passed away on September 12, 1999. Hayward had his jersey retired September 15, 1999. The Practice Court takes up one- half of the ATAC. The Practice Court has allowed the 49ers the freedom to have different athletic teams practicing /training at the same time either on the practice court or in Halton Arena. The men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball teams use the facility for regular practice. Other sports such as soccer, baseball and softball have used the practice court during their respective seasons if inclement weather forces them inside and the strength and conditioning office uses the space for training as well.
  • Beside the Hayward Memorial Practice Court is a 5,400-square-foot athletic weight room. It is equipped with a variety of free weight and systematic training equipment. The weight training facility is exclusively used by the 49ers athletic department and its student-athletes under the guidance of a three full-time strength and conditioning coaches and one graduate assistant. The unlimited access allows the strength and conditioning staff the flexibility in scheduling time in the facility to assure that the student-athletes are able to maximize their athletic development.
  • Coaches offices for the 49ers men’s and women’s basketball, golf and volleyball programs.
  • The 49ers Athletic Media Relations Department offices are on the second floor of the facility.
  • The Keffer Automotive Video Education Center is on the second floor. The video education center is equipped with a video screen with stadium seating for 50 which gives various athletic teams the ability to watch game film in a comfortable setting. Also, the Athletic Academic Services Staff teaches student-athlete freshman orientation classes in this room.
  • Beside the Video Education Center is a n executive conference room available for meetings with university and community leaders.
