Led team with 90 innings pitched, 60 strikeouts and 14 starts... Recorded decisions in all but his last two starts of the season... Became seventh player at Charlotte to cross the 300-innings pitched threshold... Added five wins to finish with 21 career victories, sixth-most in team history... Also concluded career with 230 strikeouts, seventh-most by a Charlotte pitcher... Tossed Charlotte's only complete game of the season, a 10-1 victory at Temple after a career-long 131-pitch performance... Also lasted nine innings in last collegiate outing, holding St. Bonaventure to two runs on six hits and a walk in nine innings, but the game went extra innings and Smith did not get a decision... Also held NCAA regional qualifier Dallas Baptist to just one run on four hits in seven strong innings at home... Athletic Director's List (fall).

Regional, All-Atlantic 10, All-A-10 Tournament, Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week, 4/18. Third player in team history to win an NCAA Postseason game... Ninth player in team history to reach double-digit wins in a season... His 10 wins, 1.81 and 109.1 innings pitched all led the league... In 16 starts (tied for the league lead with teammate Tyler Barnette), he allowed two earned runs or less 13 times, not allowing an earned run in five starts and just one earned run in five starts... Pitched at least five innings in all 16 starts, tossing his first career complete game in a nine-inning shutout at Saint Louis on April 15... Struck out a career-high 10 strikeouts twice... Started in four of Charlotte's school-record-tying 11 shutouts... Team was 12-4 in games in which he started... Team won late in both games in which he did not get a decision... Three of his four losses were by three runs or less... Struck out eight or more batters five times... Led the team with 92 strikeouts... 2009: Allowed just two earned runs in first 22 innings of season... Suffered tough loss at Clemson to start season, allowing just five hits and one run through six innings... Bounced back to get first win of season at Furman on Mar. 4, allowing just two hits and one run in five innings, with a season-best six strikeouts to even his record. Repeated excellent pitching performance at home in third start against Furman on Mar. 9 with six shutout innings, giving up five hits and no walks to move record to 2-1... Did not allow an earned run on Mar. 17 to USC Upstate, but took the loss with five innings of five-hit ball, with five strikeouts and three unearned runs in a 4-3 loss to move his season ERA to 0.82... Team was 4-8 in games in which he appeared... Struck out at least one batter in all 12 appearances.
2008: Team was 9-9 in games in which he appeared... Took first loss of season in first career start, a five-inning appearance at Presbyterian on Feb. 26... Earned first career win in second career appearance and first career relief appearance, tossing 2.1 scoreless innings at No. 3 South Carolina on March 5... Won back-to-back relief appearances, taking a victory in a home game versus High Point on March 9... Won in third career start, lasting five innings in a 13-4 win at home versus Stony Brook on Mar. 16... Won first conference game in second appearance and start, tossing 5.1 innings in a 6-3 win at La Salle on Mar. 29... Allowed at least one earned run in all but two appearances... Struck out at least one batter in all but one appearance.
