Jay Correll enters his fifth season at Charlotte, and his eighth in coaching at either the college, high school or club levels.
He is the recruiting coordinator, and handles team travel and equipment, and works with the outside hitters and coordinates the offense.
Correll got a rare chance to stand out as a young college assistant when he was selected to be the head coach for Carolina Region Youth Team for the USA Volleyball High Performance Program in July of 2010.
After working some of the clinics in the early part of the spring, Correll was asked to be the head coach of the region youth team by the region director and to coach the team at the High Performance Championships in July.
Correll and the team traveled to Wisconsin to compete in the championship, which is an international event. He used some of the techniques employed at Charlotte to get all of the team on the same page in a short time.
Correll was the head coach of the Choctawhatchee High School in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida for the 2007 season, and also coached the Emerald Coast Volleyball Club 16s that year. For the three years prior, he was the head coach for the Birmingham Volleyball Club, coaching several age groups including the 18s and 15s.
He has previous assistant coaching experience, as an assistant at Division II North Alabama in the fall of 2005. He worked with then-assistant Chris Redding as a volunteer assistant in the spring of his last semester at Alabama, where he graduated in 2005.
Mostly a baseball player through grade and high school, he was a libero on a team in the Birmingham Area Volleyball Association in 2006 for a club that qualified for the club-level men's National Tournament.
He has a history with Coach Redding, working with him on the staff at Alabama, where he graduated from in 2005.
