Game Notes vs. San Diego State

The 30 points the Lobos scored Saturday were their most points against San Diego State since scoring 70 in a 70-7 victory over the Aztecs in 2008. The Lobos had their highest point total in San Diego since 2005 when they scored 47 points.

UNM passed for a season-high 170 yards, marking the third straight game the team had more than 100 passing yards for the first time since Bob Davie became coach of the team in 2012.


RB Teriyon Gipson scored his first career touchdown on a 20-yard option run in the second quarter. He scored on a 5-yard run in the fourth quarter. Gipson finished with a career-high 45 rushing yards.

TE Andrew Aho’s 38-yard reception in the third quarter was a season-high. He had a season-high two receptions.

QB Cole Gautsche’s interception in the end zone at the end of the first half was just the second interception UNM has thrown this season.

RB Crusoe Gongbay scored on an 18-yard run in the third quarter, his third rushing TD this season and first since scoring against New Mexico State on Oct. 5.

WR Jeric Magnant recorded a 40-yard reception in the fourth quarter, his second of 40 or more yards this season.

QB Clayton Mitchem threw his first touchdown pass of the season, a 36-yarder to WR Tyler Duncan in the fourth quarter.

It was also Duncan’s first career catch.


LB Javarie Johnson recorded his first sack of the season and his second forced fumble of the season on the same play in the second quarter.

NT Nik d’Avanzo recorded his first career sack in the second quarter.

WLB Dallas Bollema had a season-high nine tackles in the first half. He finished with a team-high and a career-high 16 tackles.

MLB Dakota Cox recorded a career-high 12 tackles.

Special Teams

KR Carlos Wiggins had a 41-yard kickoff return in the second quarter. It was his sixth return of 40 yards or more this season.

K Justus Adams stretched his consecutive extra-point streak to 73, which is a school record. He also hit a 20-yard field goal in the third quarter, his fourth straight converted FG.

David Anaya recorded his third tackle of the season on a kickoff, stopping SDSU’s Tim Vizzi for a 7-yard return in the third quarter.
