COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of New Mexico men’s and women’s cross country teams remained favorites in the Mountain West pre-championship coaches’ polls.
The No. 9 ranked women have won five consecutive MW Cross Country Championships, while the No. 9 ranked men have won four straight.
Both teams will be looking to extend their winning streaks at the 2013 Mountain West Cross Country Championships hosted by Air Force Academy on Friday Nov. 1. The men’s 8-kilometer race goes off at 10 a.m. MT, and the women’s 6-kilometer race is scheduled for 10.45 a.m. MT.
In the men’s poll, the Lobos received five first-place votes and a total of 47 points and were followed by No. 22 Colorado State with two first-place votes and a total of 42 points. No. 20 Boise State was third with 36 points, Air Force was fourth with one first-place vote and 34 points. Wyoming were next with 22 points, followed by Utah State (21 points), Fresno State (14 points) and San José State (8 points).
On the women’s side, the Lobos tallied nine first-place votes and a total of 99 points to claim top spot. No. 25 Boise State was second with two first-place votes and a total of 89 points for second spot. Air Force was next with 81 points, followed in fourth place by Colorado State with 62 points. Utah State were fifth with 61 points, and Wyoming sixth with 52 points were followed by Nevada (50 points), Fresno State (48 points), San Diego Sate (24 points), San José State (20 points) and UNLV (19 points).
