College Football Performance Awards -- Week 5

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – University of New Mexico sophomore wide receiver/kick returner Carlos Wiggins earned College Football Performance Awards’ National All-Purpose Performer of the Week, highlighting a quartet of awards the Lobos received for its play during Saturday’s game against UNLV.

Wiggins, a 5-foot-8, 155 pounder from Plano, Texas, had a career-high 119 rushing yards and scored three touchdowns on Saturday. He had rushing TDs of 62 and 10 yards and a TD reception of 43 yards. It was the first time since 2007 that a Lobo scored a rushing and receiving touchdown in the same game. Rodney Ferguson last did it for UNM vs. Brigham Young on Sept. 29, 2007.

Wiggins had 263 all-purpose yards – 119 rushing, 57 receiving and 87 returning kickoffs – which also established a career high.

UNM defensive end Brett Bowers earned CFPA honorable mention National Defensive Lineman of the Week acknowledgement. Bowers, a 6-foot-3, 272-pound junior transfer from Ukiah, Calif., had six tackles, 2 ½ tackles for loss and forced a fumble.

Lobos senior running back Kasey Carrier (Pearland, Texas), earned recognition in two publications. He earned a CFPA honorable mention National Running Back of the Week nod, as well as an honorable mention for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award National Player of the Week.

Carrier had 192 rushing yards and one touchdown on 25 carries on Saturday. He had the 13th best single-game rushing day in school history. Carrier is ranked seventh in the nation with an average of 139.8 rushing yards this season.
