ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Several recent and a few not-as-recent alumnae will take on this year's University of New Mexico volleyball team at 6 p.m. MT on Saturday in the Johnson Center in the Lobos' only exhibition match. Admission is free.

The complete list of former Lobos expected for Saturday is still being finalized, however, RSVPs have come from Jordan Russell (2012),Ashley Newman (2012), Ashley Rhoades (2011), Allison Buck (2011), Melissa Rohr (2009), Allie Suiter (2009), Jackie Rodriguez (2009),Jeanne Fairchild (2008), Adah Burke* (2004), Reta Dominguez (1995) and Sheila Mendez Clinton (1990).

"I think it's a good group and it will certainly be nice for our players to see different faces," head coach Jeff Nelson said. "Any time our middles have to face Ashley Rhoades, it makes them better. Any time we have to block and defend against Jeanne Fairchild, it makes us better because there aren't a lot of kids hitting at that level. They both jump so high and play so high that it's good for us."

It will be the first chance for fans to catch a glimpse of the 2013 Lobos, whose make up is a lot different than last season with six newcomers and a new assistant coach in JJ Glavan. Throw in seven returning letterwinners -- including 2012 All-American and Preseason All-Mountain West Chantale Riddle, Preseason All-MW Miquella Lovato and top-returning setter and 2013 U.S. Women's National A2 Team participant Hannah Johnson -- and fans can expect a quicker brand of Lobo volleyball.

"There are a lot of positives and a lot of good change," Nelson said. "I think our players are having fun with the faster pace of practice and play. They have to work harder, but it's really good for our younger players because they just go and don't have time to analyze things."

The Lobos open their season on the road at the University of Arkansas Invitational, Aug. 30-31. New Mexico has two matches on its opening day - the first against UMKC at 12 p.m. MT and the second against the Razorbacks at 6 p.m. MT. The Lobos close out opening weekend against Northwestern State on Aug. 31 at 3 p.m. MT.

UNM's home-opening weekend is Sept. 6-7 as the Lobos host the Sheraton Airport Classic which draws Idaho State, Georgia Tech and UC Riverside. New Mexico opens against UC Riverside at 1 p.m. MT on Sept. 6 before taking on Idaho State later that day at 7:30 p.m. MT. The Lobos' final match of that tournament is against Georgia Tech at 2 p.m. MT on Sept. 7.

*Burke has a Lobo League match around the same time.
