BOILING SPRINGS – Gardner-Webb senior linebacker Oluwadamilola Teniola was honored for his outstanding scholastic achievement and service with the Most Outstanding Male Graduate Medal during the University’s 2010 fall commencement.

Teniola (Stone Mountain, Ga. / Stephenson HS) was one of nearly 300 students who received graduate and undergraduate degrees Monday.

The 5-foot-11, 223-pound linebacker graduated in just seven semesters with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. He had compiled an impressive 3.72 cumulative GPA heading into his final semester at Gardner-Webb, and was a three-year starter on the field for the Runnin’ Bulldogs.

This past season, Teniola ranked third on the team with 58 total tackles (18 solo), 3.0 tackles for loss and a half sack – helping Gardner-Webb lead the Big South Conference in total defense and rank among the national leaders in pass defense. GWU tied a Big South record in 2010 by holding four consecutive offenses to less than 300 total yards. GWU held seven opponents to less than 325 yards overall in 2010.

For his career, Teniola collected 172 career tackles and was a stalwart in the middle of the Gardner-Webb defense. He was a starter in 2008 on a a unit that set a new Big South record by holding six consecutive oppoents to less than 100 yards rushing, including a 79-yard defensive effort on the ground at eventual bowl participant Georgia Tech (10/11/08).

Teniola was earlier named to the 2010 All-Big South Conference Academic Team and was nominated for Division I Academic All-America honors.

Teniola was one of five Gardner-Webb football student-athletes who graduated in less than four full years. He joined tight end Kyle Hoffner (Sebring, Fla.), cornerback Bryce Nixon (Ellenwood, Ga.), lineman Zach Welch (Greensboro, N.C.) and linebacker Jeffery Williams (Frisco City, Ala.) in earning their degrees in just seven semesters.

Both Hoffner and Welch redshirted as freshmen and are expected to return for the 2011 season to finish their eligibility as graduate students.
