EDISON, NJ - The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference has announced its 2008 Men's Soccer All-MAAC Teams, selected by the league's ten head coaches. Iona had five players chosen for the First, Second, and Rookie Teams, and led all schools with ten members named to the All-Academic Team.
Four Gaels earned All-MAAC Second Team honors, including senior defender Ben Williams, senior forward Aly Lo, junior goalkeeper Nils Binstock, and sophomore midfielder Mario Rios.
Williams made 18 starts as a co-captain and recorded four goals from his backfield position, including two on penalty kicks. Lo made 16 starts and was second on the squad with six goals and three assists. Rios added two goals and five assists with 11 starts.
Binstock was a standout in his third year, appearing in every contest for the Maroon & Gold. He earned a career-best ten wins and eight shutouts.
Freshman Adam Rohan earned a spot on the All-Rookie Team after turning in an impressive first season. Rohan started in ten games and recorded one goal and two assists.
Iona placed the most athletes of any school on the 2008 All-Academic list. Earning honors for the Gaels were juniors Mario Aceto, Binstock, Tonna Egbuchunam, and Aleksander Haxhari and sophomores Scott Aceto, Julian Grajales, Roberto Hernandez-Raaen, Shane Jeffery, Rios, and Keith Wood.
