AMHERST, Mass. - The No. 14 UMass women's lacrosse team will face No. 18 UConn in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday, May 10 at 6:00 pm on the campus of Penn State. The winner will advance to the face the winner of the Nittany Lions/Canisius first round game. This is the third consecutive year UMass has made the NCAA Tournament and the fourth time in the last five years.
The Minutewomen enter the NCAA Tournament with a 17-2 overall record which includes a 14-game win streak. UConn is 13-4 on the year with a 5-3 mark in Big East play. This will be the first meeting between the two teams since 2010 - an 18-8 win for UMass in Storrs. Overall, UMass holds a 5-3 edge in the series.
Penn State enters the NCAA Tournament as the seventh overall seed.
Overall this is seventh time UMass has reached the NCAA Tournament (1982, 1983, 1984, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013). The Minutewomen's last win in the tournament was against Harvard in 1984. UMass won the first-ever NCAA sponsored National Championship in 1982.
