DURHAM, N.C. – Duke head football coach David Cutcliffe announced that redshirt freshman quarterback Thomas Sirk underwent surgery on Wednesday afternoon to repair a ruptured right Achilles tendon. Sirk suffered the injury during the team’s practice on Wednesday morning.
The procedure was performed by Dr.Claude T. Moorman III, Duke’s head team physician and the director of Duke Sports Medicine.
No timetable has been set for Sirk’s return.
A 6-4, 215-pound native of Glen St. Mary, Fla., Sirk enrolled at Duke in January, 2012 and did not see game action last season as the Blue Devils went 6-7 and participated in the Belk Bowl.
Duke concludes spring drills on Saturday afternoon with the annual Spring Game. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. at Wallace Wade Stadium.
