LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- Freshman Mads Soegaard continued his outstanding play at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters Saturday with a three-under 69 to move into a tie for fourth with a 142 (-2). As a team, the Blue Devils slid into a tie for eighth place after posting a six-over 294 in the second round.

California leads the tournament as the only team under par after posting a two-day total of 11-under par, 565. Stanford sits 11 shots behind at even-par, while Alabama, New Mexico and UCLA round out the top-five.

Patrick Rodgers of Stanford posted a second round 73, but still holds the lead at five-under par, while James Erkenbeck of New Mexico and Alabama's Cory Whitsett are tied for second place at three-under par. Soegaard, Joel Stalter of California and Stanford's Cameron Wilson all sit in a tie for fourth,  just one shot behind at two-under par.

With Duke opening play on the back nine, Soegaard carded pars on No. 10-12 before suffering a bogey on No. 13. The Denmark native recovered with birdies on No. 15, No. 16, No. 17 and No. 18 to make the turn at three-under. He had a second bogey of the day on No. 2 but quickly birdied the par 5 third hole before finishing off the round with six straight pars. Soegaard's 69 (-3) is his best round of the season and his seventh under-par round overall.

Seniors Brinson Paolini and Adam Sumrall posted two-over 74s in round two. Paolini carded three birdies (No. 13, No. 7, No. 8) on the day but also had five bogeys including four over his final eight holes of play. The Virginia Beach, Va., native enters the final round tied for 36th with a five-over 149.

Sumrall also had three birdies (No. 15, No. 18, No. 7) and five bogeys in the second round of action. After suffering three bogeys over his first five holes, Sumrall settled in to play one-under golf over the final 13 holes. He is currently tied for 28th at four-over (148).

Sophomore Michael Ricaurte shot a five-over 77 Saturday and is tied for 54th at eight-over. Senior Tim Gornik and Julian Suri finished with 80 and 82, respectively.
