DURHAM, N.C. – For the second straight week and the third time this season, Duke University freshman Alexis Jones has been named the ACC Rookie of the Week on Monday by a vote of the Blue Ribbon Panel.
A product of Irving, Texas, Jones registered a career-high 22 points to close the regular season with a 65-58 victory over 15th-ranked North Carolina on Sunday. Jones drained 11 straight free throws on her way to finishing with a career-high 11-of-12 from the charity stripe for the game. She added four assists and one steal in 34 minutes of action at the point guard slot.
For the week, she averaged 17.5 points, 5.0 assists and 4.5 rebounds as the Blue Devils set an ACC record with 17 league wins this season. At Miami, Jones notched 13 points, six assists and five rebounds. She hit 42.9 percent of her three-point field goals and 77.8 percent from the free throw line in the two games.
Jones has posted double-figure scoring in three straight games for the first time in her career. Since All-America Chelsea Gray went down with a knee injury, Jones has stepped up her game averaging 14.0 points, 5.8 rebounds, 4.8 rebounds and 1.3 steals in four contests.
Miami’s Shawnice Wilson was selected the ACC Player of the Week. Duke will next open the ACC Tournament on Friday, March 8 at 2:00 p.m., against the winner of the N.C. State/Clemson contest in the quarterfinals.
