HONOLULU, Hawaii - On the third full day in Hawaii, the Duke women's tennis team showed their ability to adapt to any weather conditions, and make the best of it. An early morning series of rain showers postponed the Blue Devil's morning practice, but rather than being down, many decided to try something that they had never done before: paddle boarding.
Juniors Hanna Mar and Rachel Kahan, and sophomore Annie Mulholland joined the coaching staff as they tested their balance, strength and wave-riding-abilities during a morning paddle boarding session. Despite a number of falls (both graceful and not so much), the team had a great time stepping outside of their comfort zone. When asked if they would do it again, the three all shared similar responses...probably not.
After a morning at sea, the third-ranked Blue Devils travelled back to the courts at the University of Hawaii for a fantastic afternoon practice. While the team was working hard on the court, members of the staff including team psychologist, trainers and strength and conditioning coaches joined the party by hosting a workout session of their own just steps away from the court.
The Blue Devils will have their last practice Tuesday before the two-day Hawaii Invitational Jan. 9-10.
