DURHAM, N.C. – Duke University junior Chelsea Gray earned the Ronald McDonald House Charities Duke Student-Athlete of the Week, after leading the fourth-ranked Blue Devil women’s basketball team to road league victories over N.C. State and Boston College this past week.
Gray became the third player in ACC history to register two triple-doubles in a career on Sunday at Boston College as she notched 18 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists in 33 minutes. She joined only Dawn Staley of Virginia and Tynesha Lewis of N.C. State with two career triple-doubles. Gray also tied a career high versus the Eagles by draining all four of her three-point field goal attempts.
For the week, Gray averaged 19.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 1.5 at the point guard slot. She had 20 points at N.C. State on Thursday to go along with six rebounds, two assists and two steals. For the week, Gray hit 52.2 percent of her field goals, 80.0 percent from downtown and did not miss a free throw on 10 attempts.
Gray currently leads the ACC with a 6.2 assist per game average and is the only player in the nation to average more than 15.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists.
Duke improved to 13-0 on the season and is the only remaining undefeated team in NCAA Division I. The 13-0 start also marks only the fifth time in school history the Blue Devils have opened a season with a 13-0 record.
The Blue Devils will next host Clemson on Thursday, Jan. 10 at 7:00 p.m., in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
