DURHAM, N.C.-The Duke University wrestling squad kicks off the new year with a challenging test at the 2013 Southern Scuffle presented by Defense Soap. The Southern Scuffle will be hosted by the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Jan. 1-2 at McKenzie Arena.
Southern Scuffle Details and Schedule Gates open at 9:00 a.m. (E.D.T.) on Tuesday, Jan. 1 with action beginning at 10:00 a.m. Tickets are on sale at the McKenzie Arena Box Office at (423) 266-MOCS (6627) or online at GoMocs.com. Tickets are $5 per day for youth and $15 per day for adults.

Southern Scuffle Field The Blue Devils will join 22 other teams in the Scuffle, including five top 10 programs and seven top 25 squads. Overall there are a total of seven NCAA Champions, 10 NCAA Finalists and 20 All-Americans scheduled to suit up for the Scuffle.

Hartmann and Gambucci Seeded for Duke Redshirt freshman Conner Hartmann and redshirt sophomore Brandon Gambucci both earned seeds in their respective weight classes for the Scuffle. Hartmann earned the No. 8 spot at 197 pounds, while Gambucci is 12th in the 133-pound division.
Duke Returns to the Mat after Long Break The Duke grapplers are back in action for the first time since Dec. 8 at Michigan. The Blue Devils are 1-3 overall for the year and finished seventh at the Keystone Classic in November.
Leading the Way for the Blue Devils Hartmann paces the Blue Devils with a 14-4 overall record and three top-three tournament finishes. Gambucci has been equally impressive with an 8-1 overall mark. Gambucci is riding a seven-match win streak with five of those wins coming by fall. Redshirt freshman Marcus Cain has been solid as well at 149 pounds, sporting an 11-5 record, including a fourth-place showing at the Keystone Classic.
Kerr-Brown Returns for Blue Devils Redshirt junior Immanuel Kerr-Brown returns for the Blue Devils after competing unattached in the first half of the season. Kerr-Brown, wrestling at 157 pounds, is 15-5 overall and captured top honors at the Ashland Open and a seventh-place finish at the Wolfpack Open.
Pins Leaders Gambucci is the team's leader in falls this season with five first-period pins. The Mansfield, Ohio native's fastest fall was 54 seconds at the Keystone Classic and three have come within the first two minutes. Hartmann has three falls.
Self Earns First Tournament Placing Junior Brian Self captured fifth place at the Keystone Classic this season to place in a tournament for the first time in his career. The 197-pounder used a narrow 4-2 decision in the fifth-place match to defeat Appalachian State's Paul Weiss.
Up Next for the Blue Devils Duke opens its 2013 ACC slate with a dual at Virginia Tech Jan. 12. The Blue Devils compete at VMI and Virginia, Jan. 19 and Jan. 20, respectively before making their home debut Jan. 23 against Appalachian State.
