DURHAM, N.C. - The Duke women's cross country team maintained its position as the 10th-ranked program in the U.S. Track and Field & Cross Country Coaches Association's final regular season national coaches' poll Tuesday. The Blue Devils are coming off of a first-place finish at the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships last Friday, a performance which automatically qualified the team to the NCAA Championships on Saturday, Nov. 17 in Louisville, Ky.
Four Blue Devil runners - senior Juliet Bottorff, sophomore Kelsey Lakowske, sophomore Carolyn Baskir and graduate student Suejin Ahn - earned All-Southeast Region honors following Friday's regional championships. Bottorff paced the squad with a second-place finish individually in the women's 6K race, followed by Lakowske in ninth, Baskir in 12th and Ahn in 19th. As a team, Duke recorded a score of 81 points to claim the regional title, the first for the program since the 2009 season.
The Duke men earned a fifth-place finish in the Southeast Region, led by senior Mike Moverman, who crossed the line 27th overall in the men's 10K race. The Blue Devils received an at-large berth to Saturday's NCAA Championships meet and picked up seven votes in Tuesday's coaches' poll.
