DURHAM, N.C. – Senior forwards Mason Plumlee and Ryan Kelly scored 22 points apiece, while freshman guard Rasheed Sulaimon added 20 points as Duke defeated Western Washington 105-87 on Saturday afternoon at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Plumlee added 11 rebounds and was 8-of-14 from the field and 6-of-8 from the foul line. Kelly hit 6-of-9 shots, including 3-of-4 shooting from the three-point line and 7-of-7 from the charity stripe to go along with six boards. Sulaimon had a blistering first half, scoring 18 points on 6-of-8 shooting. Sulaimon was 2-of-3 from the three-point line and 4-of-5 from the foul line in the opening half.

Sulaimon scored the game’s first points just 13 seconds in on a layup and added a three-pointer at the 17:12 mark to give Duke a 10-7 advantage. Kelly later knocked down his second three of the half on a fast break before a Sulaimon steal and layup put the Blue Devils ahead 17-7 just under four minutes in.

After Western Washington’s Rico Wilkins responded with a three of his own to cut the Duke lead to seven, the Blue Devils went on a 15-5 run, capped by two Plumlee foul shots, for a 17-point lead with 10:34 left.

The Vikings would close the gap to seven points on a Chris Mitchell layup with just over six minutes to go. Duke answered with a 13-0 run over the next 2:34, punctuated by a Josh Hairston jumper just inside the three-point line, for a 20-point advantage at 52-32.

The Blue Devils took a 54-39 lead into halftime. Plumlee had 11 points and eight rebounds at the break, while Kelly added 10 first-half points. Duke shot 54.8 percent (17-of-31) from the floor and made 4-of-9 three pointers in the opening half.

Plumlee opened the second half with a three-point play to extend the Duke lead to 18 points.

A Paul Jones tip-in at the 13:58 mark cut the Blue Devil advantage to 11 points but that was as close as the Vikings would get in the second half. An 18-8 Duke run over the next 5:49 gave the Blue Devils its largest lead at 21 points. Kelly buried his third three-pointer of the afternoon and knocked down 5-of-5 free throws during that stretch. 

Plumlee would later add eight points during a 2:30 stretch, with six of those eight points coming on three dunks.

Freshman forward Amile Jefferson made 5-of-7 shots to finish with 13 points, while sophomore guard Quinn Cook added 13 points and five assists. Hairston chipped in six points and five rebounds, redshirt freshman forward Alex Murphy added six points and four boards and junior guard Tyler Thornton had three points.

Duke shot 57.6 percent (34-of-59) from the floor on the afternoon.

Jones led the Vikings with 20 points and five rebounds, while John Allen scored 17 points. Richard Woodworth added 13 points and Wilkins finished with 12.

Duke will host Winston-Salem State in its final exhibition game on Thursday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. Fans can watch the game exclusively online at The Blue Devils will then open the regular season on Friday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. when they play host to Georgia State on ESPNU.
