Duke Travels to Wake Forest in ACC Tournament Quarterfinals on Sunday...  
    The ninth-ranked Duke women's soccer team (12-4-2) will open the 2012 ACC Tournament on Sunday as the Blue Devils will travel to Winston-Salem, N.C., for a 1:00 p.m., contest against sixth-ranked Wake Forest (12-4-3) at Spry Stadium. 

 Duke is seeded No. 6 in the ACC Tournament, while Wake Forest is the No. 3 seed.  The winner of the Blue Devils and Demon Deacons match will advance to Cary, N.C., on Friday, Nov. 2 in the semifinals against the winner of the No. 2 seed Maryland vs. No. 7 seed Miami match at 7:30 p.m., on ESPN3. 

 The Blue Devils and Demon Deacons will face each other for the second straight year in the ACC Tournament and it will mark the fifth meeting between the two teams over the last two years. 

 Sunday's match will be aired live on and there will be live stats as well.  

A Look at Wake Forest...
 Wake Forest enters the postseason with a 12-4-3 overall record, but is coming off a 3-0 loss to Virginia Tech to conclude the regular season.  Katie Stengel leads the Demon Deacons with seven goals in 11 matches, while Kristen Meier and Rachel Nuzzolese each have notched four goals.  WFU has posted a 5-3-1 record at home in 2012.

The Series with Wake Forest...
 Duke and Wake Forest will meet for the 26th time in school history on Sunday.  The Blue Devils own a 4-3-1 overall record in games played in Winston-Salem, N.C., including a 2-0 win last year.  Duke has totaled a 1-3-1 mark against the Demon Deacons in ACC tournament action.

 Last season, Duke and Wake Forest met three times with the Blue Devils winning two of the three contests.  The Blue Devils won 2-0 at Wake Forest, WFU won 2-1 in the ACC Tournament semifinals and Duke won 4-1 in the College Cup semifinals. 

 Of the eight goals the Blue Devils scored against Wake Forest the last two seasons, Kim DeCesare has scored three, while Laura Weinberg and Mollie Pathman each tallied two goals and Kaitlyn Kerr added one. 

Campbell Named Finalist of Senior CLASS Award...
 Tara Campbell has been named one of 10 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award, which is presented to a senior student-athlete and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence - community, classroom, character and competition.

 Fans can go online at to vote once per day for Campbell through Nov. 19.

 Campbell, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, is one of the top goalkeepers in the nation owning 30 shutouts and 0.91 goals against average over her career. The 5-8 Campbell is only four shutouts away from the Duke career record of 34 held by Melissa Carr and is currently second all-time in goals-against average.

In the ACC Tournament...
 Last season, Duke downed Virginia Tech, 1-0, in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament prior to falling 2-1 against Wake Forest.

 The Blue Devils have lost seven straight matches in ACC Tournament action away from Durham, N.C.  The last win was Nov. 2, 2005 against Boston College, 2-0, in Cary, N.C.  Duke has won only one match in the ACC Tournament over the last seven contests.

 Overall in ACC Tournament play, Duke owns a mark of 12-24-2.  The Blue Devils have a record of 8-11-2 in the first round.  Duke is looking for its first ACC Tournament crown and is appearing in its 25th league tournament.

 Kim DeCesare and Kelly Cobb are the only two Blue Devils on the 2012 roster to have ever scored in the ACC Tournament.

Weinberg Leads the Blue Devils in Goals...
 Junior Laura Weinberg concluded the regular season with 15 goals, but for the first time all year enters the postseason held scoreless in three straight matches.

 The 15 goals on the year ranks tied for third on Duke's single-season goals list.  The most goals in a season was 18 in 1994 by Duke's all-time leading scorer Kelly Walbert.  Her 37 points this season ranks third on Duke's single-season charts as well.

 Weinberg leads the ACC in goals (15), goals per game (0.83) and shots (79), while ranking seventh nationally in goals, seventh in points, ninth in goals per game and 11th in points per game (2.06).  

Noting Duke...

  • Sophomore Kelly Cobb registered her first goal of the season in the last match against Francis Marion. She posted a team-leading 11 goals as a rookie.



  • Kim DeCesare leads Duke with four header goals on the year, while Kaitlyn Kerr is second with three. As a team, the Blue Devils have 12 on the year.


  • Tara Campbell has posted 51 career wins in goal for the Blue Devils.


  • Cassie Pecht's 11 assists on the season is the most by a freshman in the nation. In the 12 victories this season, Duke has averaged 3.92 goals a contest.


  • Natasha Anasi has logged a team-high 1,593 minutes on the season.



  • Blue Devil goalkeeper Tara Campbell registered her fourth career assist at N.C. State.


  • After scoring five goals the first seven matches, Gilda Doria has been held scoreless the last 11 contests.


  • The Blue Devils are 11-0 this season when posting three or more goals.


  • Duke has scored 23 first half goals this season.


  • In four overtime matches this year, Duke owns a 2-1-2 record, while Laura Weinberg has notched two golden goals against Miami and Virginia Tech.


  • The Blue Devils currently own a 4-4-2 overall record this season against ranked opponents. The Blue Devils are averaging 20.1 shots a match and have taken 362 in 18 contests.


  • Mollie Pathman has notched four assists in 11 matches since returning from the U-20 World Cup. Duke has been ranked in the top 10 nationally for 23 straight weeks going back to last year. It is the longest streak in school history.


  • The Blue Devils have posted double-digit shots on goal in six matches this season -- Elon (17), San Diego (14), Clemson (14), Miami (11), N.C. State (10) and Francis Marion (11).


  • Dating back to last season, seven of the eight Blue Devil losses have been by one goal. All five of Duke's defenders who have started has registered at least one assist on the year.


  • Duke allowed a total of 13 goals a season ago, but has already let in 21 goals in 2012. Of the 21 goals, two have been own goals this season.


  • The Blue Devils have outscored opponents, 23-8, in the first half this season, while outshooting them 172-69.


  • Nine different players have scored goals on the season.


  • All 11 starters and 90.9 percent of scoring return in 2012 for the Blue Devils.

U-20 Teammates to Meet Again...
 Duke's Kelly Cobb and Mollie Pathman will go up against Wake Forest's Katie Stengel on Sunday.  All three led the U.S. U-20 squad to the World Cup gold medal in September.

Duke in the NCAA Stats...
 In the NCAA stats, the Blue Devils currently feature two in the top 21 of points per game -- Laura Weinberg (11th, 2.06) and Kim DeCesare (21st, 1.76).  In goals per game, Weinberg (9th, 0.833) and DeCesare (26th, 0.706) are ranked.  Cassie Pecht is fifth (0.61) and Gilda Doria is 27th in assists (0.50).  In total points, Weinberg is seventh (36) and DeCesare is 20th (30).  Weinberg also ranks seventh with 15 goals, while DeCesare is 21st with 12.  Pecht is fourth with 11 assists.

 As a team, Duke ranks fourth in the nation with a 2.89 goals per game average.

Top Scoring Combinations...
 The Blue Devil duo of Laura Weinberg and Kim DeCesare have combined to score 27 goals so far this season, which is tied for the Duke single-season record for scoring combinations.  The tandem is also the highest scoring duo in the nation.

Weinberg Moving Up Career Charts...
 With her 33 career goals, Laura Weinberg ranks fifth on Duke's all-time scoring list, while her 79 points is tied fifth.  Weinberg is also tied for seventh in game-winning goals (9) and second in multi-goal games (8).  She has 15 goals in 18 matches and seven assists this year.  Her career best in a season was 10 goals as a freshman.

High Scoring Offense...
 With its 2.89 goals per game average and 52 goals through 18 games, the Blue Devils are scoring like no other Blue Devil team coached by Robbie Church.  The highest goals per game average for a season is 3.05 in 1989 with 67 goals in 22 matches.

 The previous high for a Church coached Blue Devil squad with 65 goals in 2004 for an average of 2.83 per game.

In the ACC Stats...
 The Blue Devils boast four players in the top 10 in points -- Laura Weinberg (T1st, 37), Kim DeCesare (T3rd, 30), Cassie Pecht (T8th, 21) and Gilda Doria (T10th, 19).  In goals, Weinberg (1st, 15) and DeCesare (4th, 12) are listed, while Pecht is tied first in assists (11) and Doria is third (9). 

 On the first page of the conference overall stats, either Weinberg or Pecht lead in all eight

 In conference games only, Weinberg was tied for second in points (19), tied for second in points per game (1.80), second in goals (8) and second in goals per game (0.80).  Weinberg is averaging 4.60 shots per match to lead the league.  Pecht is tied for second with five assists and Doria is tied fifth with four assists, while Weinberg is tied for the lead in game-winning goals with three. 

 As a team, Duke leads the league in points (163), goals (52), goals per game (2.89), first in assists (59) and first in assists per game (3.28).
