CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - With 18 holes remaining at the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational, the top-ranked Duke women's golf team is in eighth place overall after carding rounds of 296 and 301 for a total of 597 at the 6,285-yard, par 72 Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C.
The Blue Devils are only six shots out of second place, while North Carolina holds the team lead with a ledger of 581. Baylor (591), Florida (593), N.C. State (595), Virginia (595), Mississippi (596), LSU (596), Duke (597), Arkansas (598) and South Carolina (599) rounds out the top 10 teams.
Blue Devil senior Lindy Duncan has led the way for Duke as she enters Sunday's action tied for 16th overall with rounds of 74 and 73. A native of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Duncan has a 36-hole total of 147 and is seven shots off the individual leader Hayley Davis of Baylor (140).
The reigning national player of the year, Duncan carded a birdie on the 370-yard, par four fourth hole to go along with eight pars on the opening nine as she made the turn with a one-under-par, 35. On the back, she opened with back-to-back bogeys on the 10th and 11th holes followed by seven consecutive pars.
After carding a two-under-par, 70, on day one, junior Laetitia Beck had a solid start at even par through eight holes on Saturday, but a double-bogey on No. 9 sent her into the back nine with a two-over-par score of 38. The Caesarea, Israel product struggled to close the day as she suffered five bogeys over the final six holes to finish the day with a 78. Beck is tied for 20th with one round remaining.
Freshman Celine Boutier turned in a 74 on Saturday and is tied for 31st with a 150. A native of Montrouge, France, Boutier opened her day with birdies on No. 2 and No. 5 to move to two-under-par. She closed the round with four bogeys and nine pars.
Senior Stacey Kim added a 76, while freshman Yi Xiao shot a 79 in the second round. Kim, who is from Columbus, Ga., is tied for 42nd and Xiao, a China product, is tied for 55th. With a team-best three birdies on the day, Kim hit 14 fairways, 11 greens and had 31 putts.
Duke will tee off on Sunday beginning at 9:15 a.m., with a shotgun start on holes six, seven, eight and nine along with LSU and Arkansas. Live scoring will be available via www.Golfstat.com.
