DURHAM, N.C. - The women's cross country team travels to Madison, Wisconsin to compete in the Wisconsin adidas invitational on Friday, October 12. Race time is set for 1:00 p.m. Recently, GoDuke.com sat down with senior Madeline Morgan to learn more about the Birmingham, Ala., native.
GoDuke.com: What has been your proudest moment at Duke? Madeline Morgan: Any of the meets where we have done really well as a team and everyone is excited with how they did. For me personally, at regionals last year when I qualified for nationals, it was a pretty exciting moment.
GoDuke.com: What is your favorite part of being a Duke student-athlete? MM: A lot of people when they first come to college may have a tough transition if they do not know anybody. Being a student-athlete, you have your team, which makes for an easy transition because you have people you have a lot in common with and you get along with right off the bat.
GoDuke.com: What has been your favorite class at Duke? MM: Primate Field Biology because it was cool getting to work with the primates. I had a great professor and I took it with a teammate.
GoDuke.com: What has been your most challenging class at Duke? MM: Organic Chemistry 2. I took it last fall during cross country and it was a little harder to balance.
GoDuke.com: Tell us about a time when you first started playing your sport. MM: I first started running when I was in eighth grade, a bunch of my friends and I decided to try out for the team. It was a slow start but I really liked the team I was with and they kind of motivated me to keep getting better.
GoDuke.com: As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? MM: A doctor. That was my idea from an early age. Both of my parents are doctors and that is the one thing that I can see myself doing for the rest of my life.
GoDuke.com: Who has been the biggest influence on your life? MM: Both of my parents have definitely been huge influences. My dad in particular has helped me keep everything in perspective. He helps me to find the right balance to do everything I can to succeed but to also enjoy it at the same time.
GoDuke.com: What's your favorite midnight snack? MM: Breakfast food of any kind, especially pancakes or IHOP.
GoDuke.com: What is the first thing you notice about people? MM: I guess their accents when I am talking to them.
GoDuke.com- Do you have any embarrassing music on your IPod? MM- I love '90s pop music. I have a ton of Backstreet Boys, NSYNC and old Brittany Spears.
