ATHENS, Ga. - The top-ranked Duke women's golf team carded a seven-over-par, 295, on Saturday to jump into a tie for eighth overall at the Liz Murphey Fall Preview, which is being played at the 6,335-yard, par 72 University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens, Ga.
The Blue Devils moved from tied for 14th to a tie for eighth overall on day two with 18 holes remaining on Sunday. Auburn continues to lead the action with a 580, while Alabama (585), North Carolina (586), Southern California (592), Texas A&M (595), Georgia (595), Oklahoma (596), Tennessee (597), Duke (597) and Denver (597) rounded out the top 10 teams. The Blue Devils have registered rounds of 302 and 295 over the 36 holes. Duke was four-under-par on the day on the back nine and moved into third place overall before dropping 13 shots over the final six holes.
Blue Devil senior Lindy Duncan continues to lead Duke as she ranks tied for 15th overall with a two-day total of 146, after carding rounds of 73 the first two days. A product of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Duncan opened with a two-under-par score through nine holes, but closed with three bogeys over her final six holes to finish with a 73. On the day, Duncan hit 13 greens, nine fairways and had 31 putts.
Leading the individual action was Marta Sanz of Auburn with a four-under-par, 140, while Raula Reto is second with a 142.
Coming off registering an 84 on day one, senior Stacey Kim carded Duke's best round of the day with an even-par, 72. She is now tied for 76th overall with a 156. Kim, who is out of Columbus, Ga., notched three birdies, three bogeys and 12 pars on the day. She hit nine fairways, 12 greens and had 30 putts in her round. Seven of those greens were inside 15 feet.
Freshman Celine Boutier, who is from Montrouge, France, had Duke's best round of the day going into the back nine as she was two-under-par with only four holes left, but suffered three bogeys to close with a 73. She is tied for 55th with a 152 as she heads into the final round.
A native of Caesarea, Israel, Laetitia Beck has notched rounds of 74 and 77 the first two days and his tied for 40th overall with a seven-over-par, 151. Beck hit a team-best 15 greens along with nine fairways, but had a team-high 38 putts on the day. She was even par through 10 holes today but struggled on the way in with five bogeys during a stretch of seven holes.
Freshman Yi Xiao turned in a 77 on Saturday and is tied for 59th overall with a 153. Xiao, who is out of China, was only one-over-par through 12 holes after notching birdies on No. 1 and No. 3, but had bogeys on four out of the next five holes to finish with a five-over-par, 77. She hit nine greens, seven fairways and had 31 putts in the round.
As a team, Duke registered 13 birdies on the day. The Blue Devils will tee off beginning at 8:10 a.m., on Sunday in the final round along with Tennessee and Oklahoma. Live scoring will be available via www.Golfstat.com
