DURHAM, N.C. - The women's cross country team will travel to Madison, Wisc., to compete in the Wisconsin adidas Invite on Friday, October 5, 2012. Recently, GoDuke.com sat down with senior Ashley Brasovan to learn more about the Wellington, Fla., native.
GoDuke.com: What has been your proudest moment at Duke? Ashley Brasovan: I don't think there's any one moment that I'm the most proud of. I think just making it to senior year and just being in this atmosphere and at this school and on the team has been just overall a great experience.
GoDuke.com: What is the most misunderstood thing about your sport? AB: That all we do is run. I feel like it's so much more than that and people just don't understand. Like we don't just go to practice and run for four hours. That's only a small component of the overall sport.
GoDuke.com: What's your favorite part of being a Duke student-athlete? AB: Definitely just the team and the environment. I love the team and couldn't imagine going to the last three years without all the girls and the guys on the team. It's just been fun enjoying something to get away from academic life.
GoDuke.com: What's your favorite spot on campus? AB: That's a tough one. I would have to say the Duke Gardens. It's a good place to just get away from everything and just sit and enjoy. And I really like nature so just having different seasons and just seeing all the flowers and everything.
GoDuke.com: Are there any words of wisdom you would like to pass on to freshmen or any future Blue Devils? AB: Enjoy your experience here. It's four years of your life you'll never get back. So take what you can out of it.
GoDuke.com: Tell us about the first time you started running competitively or knew that you wanted to be a runner. AB: I used it for cross training for swimming actually in high school and realized I was a lot better at running than swimming and it was more fun when I did well as opposed to swimming. So then I just decided I might as well try running instead.
GoDuke.com: As a kid did you know what you wanted to be when you grow up? What do you want to be now? AB: When I was a kid ... I don't know, I don't think I really thought about the future that much. I think now I want to go into environmental consulting.
GoDuke.com: If you won the lottery what's the first thing you would do? AB: Invest it.
GoDuke.com: Do you have any hidden talents? AB: I'm just talented at everything [laughs].
GoDuke.com : What's one possession you can't live without? AB: I don't know. Probably my water bottle. I just take it everywhere with me out of habit. I think being from Florida, I just have to have my water bottle everywhere.
GoDuke.com: Mountains or beach? AB: Mountains
GoDuke.com: Eat-in or eat-out? AB: Eat in
GoDuke.com: Get up early or stay up late? AB: Early
GoDuke.com : Winter or summer? AB: Summer
