Redshirt senior safety Jordon Byas was named Ronald McDonald House Charities Duke Student-Athlete of the Week after anchoring Duke's defense during Saturday's 34-27 win at Wake Forest. He amassed a team-high 11 tackles and his first career interception as the Blue Devils improved to 4-1 on the season. Playing the strike safety position, Byas carded six solo stops along with a half tackle for loss and a half sack as the Duke defense forced four Wake Forest turnovers, including the Demon Deacons' first two lost fumbles of the season.

Byas, who returned to action in week four after missing Duke's first three games with an injury, has registered 17 tackles in his first two games back on the field. Since his return, he has bolstered a Duke defense that is holding opponents to 118.6 rushing yards per game, the fifth-lowest average in the ACC. Opposing teams are averaging just 3.4 yards per carry against the Blue Devils, the fourth-lowest clip in the ACC, and have posted just 354.4 total yards per game which also ranks fourth in the league.

Byas and the Blue Devils look to improve on their 4-1 start this Saturday, Oct. 6, when they return home to Wallace Wade Stadium for a 3 p.m. contest against Virginia.
