DURHAM, N.C. -- Duke lacrosse senior CJ Costabile and
fencing junior Anthony Lin were named to the Capital One Academic All-District
III Men's At-Large Team, as announced on Friday by the College Sports Information
Directors of America (CoSIDA).
It is the first such selection for both Blue Devils, the
fifth consecutive year that a Duke men's fencer appeared on the Academic
All-District III At-Large Team and the fifth time in the last six years that a
Duke men's lacrosse player has earned the honor. Costabile boasts a 3.32 grade
point average as a history major, while Lin has earned a 3.80 GPA as a neuroscience
and computer science major.
Costabile, a three-time All-America selection, has helped
anchor Duke's faceoff game and defense throughout his career. The ACC
Co-Defensive Player of the Year, the New Fairfield, Conn., native currently
leads the ACC and ranks eighth nationally in ground balls with 6.6 per game and
121 overall. His 353 career ground balls are the most in Duke history as he
surpassed goaltender Joe Kirmser's 327 ground balls in the ACC semifinal win
A two-time All-ACC selection, Costabile has picked up at least
five ground balls in 15 of his 18 games this season and nine-plus pickups in
five contests. He has had equal success at the X in 2012, winning at least 50
percent of his draws 10 times. Overall for the year, he is 119-of-231 (.515) at
the faceoff X. Defensively Costabile has been outstanding, ranking second on
the team with 18 caused turnovers, including a season-best three in Duke's
come-from-behind win over Marist.
Lin is a three-time NCAA qualifier with a career record
of 140-42 (.769) and three top-10 finishes at the Atlantic/South Regionals. He
posted a 41-11 record as a junior this season while helping the Blue Devils to
an 18-9 overall record and the No. 8 spot in the USFCA Coaches Poll.
Lin has contributed to Duke's most successful NCAA run in
school history, helping the Blue Devils net three consecutive top-10 finishes
at the national championships. Duke had never garnered a top-10 finish before
Lin's arrival, but in qualifying for the NCAA Championships in each of his
first three seasons, he helped the team rank 10th (2010), ninth (2011) and
ninth (2012) during his career.
Both Costabile and Lin are now eligible for Academic
All-America honors. CoSIDA will announce the Capital One Academic All-District
III Women's At-Large team at a later date.
