CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- The Bradley women's golf team finished the opening day of play at the Islander Classic in seventh at the par-72 Corpus Christi Country Club. The Braves shot a pair of 314's to end the day one shot out of a tie for fifth.
Senior Kelly Amundrud (Calgary, Alberta/Strathcona Tweedsmuir) matched a season-best 74 in the second round, after a first-round 78 and is tied for 10th at 152. Amundrud, who played her 100th career round in the morning, is seven shots out of the lead and just three back of third-place Summer Batiste (149) of Texas-San Antonio.
Freshman Christie Lin (Calgary, Alberta/Sir John G Diefenbaker) carded a pair of 79's Monday to close the day six shots behind Amundrud in a tie for 31st (158), while freshman Thea Hedemann (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan/Walter Murray) and sophomore Cassandra Marschall (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield/Wisconsin-Green Bay) will enter Tuesday's final round tied for 35th at 159.
Hedemann followed up a first-round 78 with an 81 in the afternoon, while Marschall's opening round 79 preceded a second-round 80. Senior Erin Gorman (Rockford, Ill./Boylan) closed out the team scoring for BU with rounds of 83 and 82 to end the day tied for 62nd at 172.
Texas San-Antonio, which is ranked 56th according to Golfweek.com, holds a convincing lead on the field after a two-round total of 592. Tournament-host Texas A&M Corpus Christi is second at 619 and Lamar rounds out the top three at 621. Houston Baptist is four shots ahead of the Braves in fourth at 624 with Sam Houston State and Central Arkansas following in a tie for fifth at 627.
Bradley is one shot out of fifth in seventh at 628 after matching scores of 314 and BU holds a one-shot advantage on eighth-place UMKC (629). Oklahoma City is ninth in the team standings (632) and McLennan Community College rounds out the top 10 of the 14-team field at 632.
The Braves close out action at the Islander Classic Tuesday with one round of play beginning at 8 a.m.
