DURHAM, N.C. – Christina Falcone is a senior on the volleyball team. One of the initial First Year ACTION program upper-class mentors, Falcone is one of the most positive faces around our program. In addition to being a mentor for the past three years, she has represented Duke Athletics at the NCAA APPLE Drug and Alcohol Peer Education Leadership Conference as well as consistently participated in numerous service projects and initiatives, both with teammates and on her own. Her attitude, peer support and encouragement make her a reliable and selfless mentor, as well as an example to others.
What is your major? Christina Falcone: Psychology with a minor in evolutionary anthropology.
What are your future goals? CF: To be a Physician’s Assistant, coach volleyball and attend cooking school in Italy.
Why are you a mentor and what is your favorite part of SAAC? CF: I love meeting the freshmen and giving them pieces of advice or things to know that I did not realize when I first got to college. Even though I’ve been doing the ACTION program for four years now I still seem to learn and take away something new each time.
Who is a person that has had a positive effect on you? CF: My grandfather. Although he has passed away, I still try to emulate and carry with me his amazing work ethic, compassion, loyalty and values that he possessed.
Name five things you love to do. CF: I love to cook, watch football, play volleyball, travel and visit new cities, and relax with my family and friends.
What is a symbol that represents you? CF: A cross because I am Catholic and faith is an important part of my life and the sun because I am always smiling and I love brightening up other people’s day.
If you could spend an hour with anyone, who would it be? CF: My grandfather, Carmen Falcone.
What is your favorite part of Duke Athletics so far? CF: The unity and camaraderie among all the athletes and different teams. We are truly a family, not just individual sports.
