LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The New Mexico State Aggies head to Colorado Springs, Colo., for the in the 2015 Western Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships at the U.S. Air Force Academy Cadet Field House this weekend.
“We hope we can go in and put our best foot forward in terms of what we have been preparing for all season,” said head coach Orin Richburg. “We are going to have to go out and compete well to try to get up there with some of the other competitors that are in the top half of the conference.”
Junior Kelsi Gonzalez leads the Aggies in to the competition as she leads all WAC competitors in the 800-meters. Gonzalez sits on top of the WAC boards with her 2:16.22 at the Don Kirby Invitational.
Senior Diana Hawk currently has the second best times in the mile and the women’s 3000-meters. During the Don Kirby Invitational, Hawk clocked a 4:52.20 in the mile and a posted a 10:00.36 in the 3000 during the Texas Tech Masked Rider on Jan. 29.
Championship field events begin at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, with preliminaries on the track starting at 2:30. The first track finals begin at 5 p.m.
Saturday’s action starts with field events at 10 a.m., followed by the track finals at noon.
