
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – For the seventh-consecutive season, Grand View (Iowa) claims the No. 1 ranking in the postseason edition of the NAIA Wrestling Coaches’ Top 20 Poll, the national office announced Friday. The Vikings won their seventh-straight national title with 171.5 points.
Top 20 Highlights (historical information dates back to 2000-01)
• Grand View holds the No. 1 ranking for the 45th-consecutive poll and 48th time in program history. This is the most for any institution since the start of the 2000-01 season.
• The last time Grand View was not ranked No. 1 was on October 17, 2012.
• The Vikings boast three national champions this year, resulting in those individuals maintaining their No. 1 ranking – Grand Henderson (165 pounds), Evan Hansen (197 pounds) and Dean Broghammer (285 pounds).
• There are three new top-ranked wrestlers – Tyler Fraley of Williams Baptist (Ark.) (141 pounds), Lucas Lovvorn of Baker (Kan.) (174 pounds) and Charles Sharon of Campbellsville (Ky.) (184 pounds). All three won national championships
• No. 2 Cumberlands (Ky.), No. 3 Williams Baptist, No. 4 Montana State-Northern and No. 5 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) round out the top five.
• There are four newcomers to the Top 20 – No. 17 York (Neb.), No. 18 Doane (Neb.), No. 19 Eastern Oregon and No. 20 Oklahoma City.
• Since 2001, only Grand View (2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18), former members Notre Dame (Ohio) (2010-11) and Lindenwood (Mo.) (2006-07) have spent the entire season ranked No. 1.
