HUNTSVILLE – Sam Houston pitcher Lindsey McLeod has been named to the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District VII softball first team, presented by CoSIDA, the organization recently announced.
The Austin native dominated Southland Conference play in the circle this season with a 21-8 record, and she was voted as the league’s Player and Pitcher of the Year and named first-team All-SLC. The Bearkats won the regular-season and SLC tournament championships to earn a berth to the NCAA Tournament Austin Regional. It is the third time McLeod has earned an honor to the CoSIDA team after doing so the previous two years.
McLeod, who graduated this May with a 4.0 grade-point average in public health, broke SHSU’s career strikeouts record earlier this season and now has 715. The three-time All-SLC honoree is second in career no-hitters with three and is second in saves with 11.
She was named the SLC Pitcher of the Week twice this year and five times in her career and has set several school season records as well. Her three no-hitters in 2019 are tied for first all-time. McLeod broke the old mark with 41 consecutive scoreless innings pitched during the Bearkats’ 13-game conference winning streak this season, and she broke her school record for most strikeouts in a season (222 in 2018) with 259 to date.
McLeod's 21 wins this season is tied for sixth best in program history, and her 58 career wins are fifth all-time.
The Google Cloud Academic All-District® teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot, with first- and second-team Academic All-America® honorees to be announced in June.
