LYNCHBURG, Va. – The UNC Asheville women’s volleyball team lost in straight sets in Lynchburg, Virginia to the Flames of Liberty University Saturday afternoon.


Liberty won the first set by their largest margin of seven points, before taking sets two and three 25-19, 25-19.


The Bulldogs are coming off of a close five-set loss to league leading Radford University the night before, dropping the contest 18-16 in the fifth set.


The Bulldogs remain in sixth place in the Big South Conference heading into their match with Campbell on November fifth in the Justice Center.



-Ansley Rooks led the Asheville offense with 10 kills on 22 attempts. Liberty’s Gabrielle Vess recorded a match-high 13 kills for the Flames.


-The Flames out-dug the Bulldogs 54-45 in three sets.


-Liberty also recorded 11 blocks on the defensive side of the ball. Asheville earned three blocks of their own.



“The team started slow and our opponent was able to take advantage and establish themselves. We had some good moments in the match but not enough to overturn their momentum. We hope to have a good week of practice in preparation for our next conference matches.” Head Coach Frederico Santos



-Following this weekend’s road trip, the Bulldogs will host Campbell University on November 5th at 2:00 p.m. for senior day, where the Bulldogs will honor the program’s two seniors, Shelby Erickson and Madison Vaughn.
