Dover, Del. (Nov. 26, 2019) --- Delaware State Equestrian’s flat and fences teams are listed among the nation’s best. The National Collegiate Equestrian Association has released the first set of event rankings for the 2019-20 season, and the Hornets’ Flat team is No. 4 in the country, while the Fences stands at No. 7 in the NCEA Selection Committee polls.
DSU’s Jumping Seats teams turned in a number of strong performances this fall, including a sweep of South Dakota State, winning 4-1 in Fences and 3-2 on the Flat.
In addition, Hornets Jumping Seat riders have collected four Most Outstanding Performer awards this fall, including two by Erin Gordon, who collected has multiple ECAC Rider-of-the-Week awards this season.
Jumping Seat riders Sydney Wicklund and Gabrielle Fournier have also earned MOP honors this season.
The National Championship format includes four event titles that will be included in the April 2020 NCEA National Championship. The Event titles will be determined through a head-to-head bracket format in each of the four events that comprise a head-to-head in-season meet. The final set of rankings will be used to seed teams for the Event title competitions in Waco, Texas.
The Delaware State equestrian team will begin its winter schedule on Jan. 30 at nationally ranked Texas Christian University.
