Millsboro, Del. (Nov. 24, 2019) --- Delaware State posted a 2-1 record in Sunday’s Championship Bracket to finish ninth in the final standings at the 2019 Hawk Bowling Classic hosted by the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
The Hornets finished the three-day, 18-team tournament with a 7-6 overall record and total pinfall of 12,726.
Sam Houston State was the tournament champion (9-4; 13,746). Arkansas State (12-1; 13,130), Duquesne (8-5; 13,418), Sacred Heart (8-5; 13,815) and Vanderbilt (6-7; 13,119) round out the top five.
DSU, ranked 15th in the preseason National Tenpin Coaches Association Top 25 poll, defeated No. 14 Tulane 1225-1126 in the first round of Sunday’s Championship bracket Baker matches. The Hornets had a top score of 245 in game five vs. Tulane.
In the second round, the Hornets fell to No. 8 North Carolina A&T 1264-1150.
Delaware State was in eighth place with a 3-2 record (4786 total pinfall) after the opening day of Baker contests.
The Hornets were 2-3 in Saturday’s traditional matches.
Individually, DSU Alexis Neuer (sr.) was sixth among 117 competitors, and tops among bowlers from MEAC teams, with a total pinfall of 1,057 for a five-game average of 211.4 . Neuer topped the 200 mark in four games with a high of 247.
Stefanny Toala (so.) was second on the Hornets and 42nd overall with a 941 total pinfall and 188.2 average.
