Greensboro, N.C. (Nov. 17, 2019) --- The Delaware State bowling team posted a 5-7 overall record to finish eighth at the 12-team Stallings Invitational in Greensboro, N.C., this weekend. The Hornets posted a 4-2 record in Baker contests and were 1-5 in traditional matches.
DSU had a strong start to the tournament, winning four of five Baker matches to stand in third place with 4,937 total pins in day one of the tournament. The Hornets were victorious against Howard, Prairie View A&M, Tusculum and Coppin State, while falling to Lincoln Memorial in opening day Baker games.
Delaware State’s traditional matches featured losses to Alabama Birmingham, Texas Southern, Maryland-Eastern Shore and Mount St. Mary’s and North Carolina A&T. The Hornets’ lone traditional win was against Louisiana Tech.
DSU fell to sixth place with a 5-5 mark after day two of the tournament.
In Sunday’s match play Baker contests, the Hornets fell to Tusculum 4-3 in the opening series before dropping suffering a 4-2 series loss to Prairie View to close out the tournament.
Individually, Alexis Neuer (sr.) was Delaware State’s top performer, finishing 10th among 74 competitors with a total pinfall of 1,233 for a six-game average of 205.5. Neuer had three 200-yard games, including a high of 238.
DSU’s Katie Robb also posted a top 20 ranking, finishing 18th with a total pinfall of 1,190 (198.3 avg.). Robb had a season-high of 233 in her last game.
The Hornets, 12-10 overall this season, will return to action next week at the Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawk Invitational in Millsboro, Del.
