CHARLESTON, S.C. – UNCG women's basketball collects its seventh win of the season this Monday, defeating College of Charleston on the road by a final of 69-56. The Spartan offense shot 50.9 percent from the field against their hosts, while holding the Cougars to just 25 points in the first half of play.
After conceding the first points of the contest, the Spartans responded with a 16-2 run against the Cougars and never looked back. UNCG held C of C to just three field goals in the opening 10 minutes to take a 22-9 lead into the first break. Aja Boyd scored seven points in the first quarter while adding two boards and an assist.
Nadine Soliman improved her team's 13 point advantage with another three buckets in the second quarter, bringing her first half total to 14 and the Spartans' lead to 44-23. UNCG hit 18-of-29 (62.1) shots in the opening 20 minutes in comparison to the Cougars' 9-of-25 (36.0), with College of Charleston turning the ball over 11 times.
The Spartans led by as many as 26 points through the third period, while keeping C of C to 11 points in the quarter. Boyd added another six points and five rebounds during the second half to come within two boards of her second double-double of the season. She would finish with 14 and eight, while hitting 6-of-9 in the Spartans' 69-56 victory.
