COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Athletic Equipment Managers Association awarded Maryland head equipment manager Ron Ohringer with the 2018 Glenn Sharp Equipment Manager of the Year award at a ceremony this month. Ohringer was up for the honor after being named District 2 Equipment Manager of the Year.
Affectionately known as “Ronnie O”, he has worked in various capacities at Maryland since coming as a student in 1981 and has been a head manager since 1988. Ohringer currently oversees the Varsity Team House equipment room, working directly with baseball, men’s soccer, women’s soccer and track and field. He graduated with a degree from Maryland in public relations in 1985.
Over the course of his longtime association with the school, Ohringer has also worked with football and men’s basketball. He has also worked in various capacities with the Washington Redskins, Washington Capitals and Philadelphia Eagles. In addition to his professional work, Ohringer is a youth baseball coach.
