Fahoum Wins Two Over Nationally Ranked Opponents

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. -- ODU junior women's tennis player Nadine Fahoum (Haifa, Israel) won two matches over nationally ranked opponents at the 2009 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships before falling in the Round of 16 of the qualifying draw.

On Tuesday, Fahoum opened the tournament in doubles play with teammate Joanna Dobrowolska (Warsaw, Poland). The ODU pair faced off against the 18th ranked doubles team in the nation, UNC's Katrina Tsang and Shinann Featherston. Despite battling the Tar Heel tandem, UNC won 8-6.

Just half an hour following the doubles match, Fahoum, ranked 116th in the nation in singles, was scheduled to play 76th ranked Mariana Muci (Florida International). The ODU junior won the first set, 6-2, and was leading 3-1 in the second before Muci was forced to retire.

In the next round, Fahoum was up against Baylor's Csilla Borsanyi, ranked 48th in the nation. With a 6-4, 6-7 (3), 6-4 win against Borsanyi, Fahoum posted her first win over a Top 50 opponent in 2009-10. The match lasted three hours with the Lady Monarch coming out on top.

On Wednesday, Fahoum was up against another nationally ranked player, 53rd ranked Alison Ramos from USC. Ramos halted Fahoum's impressive run with a 6-2, 6-3 win over the ODU junior.

Round of 16: #53 Ramos (USC) def. #116 Fahoum (ODU) 6-2, 6-3
