Cahana Sets Record as #43 Women's Tennis Upends #38 VCU

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The #43 Old Dominion women's tennis team collected another upset victory over a team ranked higher than itself with a 6-1 win over CAA foe and 38th-ranked Va. Commonwealth Wednesday afternoon at the Centre Court Racquet Club in Newport News. With the win, the Lady Monarchs have strung together a ten-game win streak and are currently 11-1 overall (2-1 CAA). Old Dominion has collected a 5-1 record against ranked opponents this season.

Old Dominion was led by fifth-ranked freshman sensation Nataly Cahana (Qiriat Bialik, Israel), who collected a 6-3, 6-2 win at #1 singles. Cahana is now 12-0 in spring singles play and has collected a 35-3 overall record this spring. She has set a new record for singles win in a season, topping the old record set by Hall of Famer Pat Shaulis (34-8).

Mily Kannarkat (Virginia Beach, Va.) improved to 11-1 on the season with a win at #4 singles while Ana Radeljevic (Zagreb, Croatia) broke ten wins with a #3 singles victory.

The Lady Monarchs will host Boston University Friday at the Old Dominion Tennis Complex at 2 pm.
