Norfolk, Va. - Head coach Heather Weisel and the Old Dominion University rowing program held the first of a series of luncheons entitled Women of Excellence, Tuesday afternoon at the Webb Center on the campus of ODU. Initiated by Weisel, the series is designed to allow successful women from the ODU campus and the Norfolk community to interact with the student-athletes and share their personal stories, as well as develop relationships as possible mentors. In addition, the series is also used to introduce ODU and the sport of rowing to the community.

"The Women of Excellence Luncheon was a great start to a part of our program that we hope will become important to both the student-athletes and the wonderful women who participated," added Weisel. "We realize that it takes time for a program like this grow and develop its own personality and meaning to everyone, and we look forward to its evolution and inspiration."

The luncheon consisted of panel and round table discussions that covered topics such as success, pursuing goals and dreams, and creating a support network.

"The luncheon was a great opportunity for my teammates and I," said freshman captain Liz Hess. "We were able to listen to many successful women in our community talk about the different paths that they have taken and their views of success. Whether it is a stay at home mom or the owner of their own company, the most important thing is to find something that makes you happy.

The Women of Excellence series will continue March 31, and those wishing to attend can contact head coach Heather Weisel at 757-683-6715 or via email at hweisel@odu.edu.
