NORFOLK, VA (Feb. 5) - Old Dominion's women's swimming and diving team captured its second win in its last three meets with a 128-113 victory over UMBC. The Lady Monarchs improve to 3-10 on the year as they prepare for the upcoming CAA Championships, Feb. 23-26.

UMBC held the early lead after capturing the 400 medley relay, but the Lady Monarchs fought back, winning the next four events to hold a 52-40 advantage entering the first diving break. Freshman diver Ashley Kirchner (Arlington, VA) won the women's three-meter dive with a school-record score of 271.80, also good enough to qualify for the women's NCAA Deep Zones.

Ahead, 70-59, after round one of diving, the Lady Monarchs scored another win as freshman Tori Vanderbilt (Hendersonville, TN) captured the 100 free, her second victory of the day. Later, with the Lady Monarchs up by only seven points (87-80), freshman freestyle specialist Jamie D'Agostino (Ardsley, NY) won the 500 free to move the Lady Monarchs ahead, 101-85, entering round two of diving.

Kirchner recorded a sweep in the diving events as she won the women's one meter with a score of 266.93 to give Old Dominion a 23-point edge heading into the final two events (114-91). UMBC won the 200 breast, but the Lady Monarchs' Kara Fichthorn (Landsdowne, PA) finished a close second to keep the Lady Monarchs up, 122-102.

In the final event of the day (400 free relay), the Lady Monarchs finished second and third, behind UMBC's first-place performance, to win the event, 128-113. Old Dominion returns to action Feb. 23-26 as they participate in the CAA Championships at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA.
