In the program’s first-ever appearance and invite to the Harry Anderson, Jr. Trophy regatta, the College of Charleston coed sailing team placed third out of the Top 17 schools in the country on Sept. 11 in Branford, Conn. The Cougars scored 186 points across the two-division event behind rivals Boston College (153 points) and host Yale (167 points). Cusick skippered the Cougars to a six-point win over Yale in A-Division with victories in Races 3, 4, 5 and 13 with senior crew Chloe Dapp (Newport Beach, Calif.).
Tori Churchill | Women’s Cross Country | Junior | Greensboro, N.C. | Undeclared
For the second week in a row, Churchill finished first among her College of Charleston teammates by way of a seventh-place overall finish among a field of 209 athletes at the Furman Invitational on Sept. 10 in Greenville, S.C. Churchill crossed the finish line with a time of 21 minutes, 54.65 seconds, which not only improved her PR by over 10 seconds, but surpassed former CofC distance runners Trish Rein and Ashley Arnold as the fourth-fastest 6K runner in program history. Her big performance was key in the Cougars’ 80-point, third-place finish, which edged ACC member Clemson (82), ranked No. 12 in the Southeast region, by two points. Churchill has now turned in top back-to-back weekend performances after winning the 2-mile (11:21.57) at the WCU Invitational on Sept. 3.
