Cougars Move On To ICSA Gill Coed National Championship Finals
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The College of Charleston coed sailing team finished third overall at the ICSA Gill Coed Western Semifinal regatta to move on to the finals of the ICSA Gill Coed National Championship on Wednesday at the San Diego Yacht Club.
The Cougars totaled 151 points across the two-division, 18-team event behind first-place U.S. Coast Guard Academy (93 points) and second-place Georgetown (136 points).
Sailing for CofC in A-Division was senior skipper Dodge Rees (Pensacola, Fla.) and sophomore crew Grace McCarthy (San Diego, Calif.), who finished seventh with 86 points. In B-Division, senior skipper Jake Reynolds (San Diego, Calif.) and junior crew Chloe Dapp (Newport Beach, Calif.) placed second in a head-to-head tiebreaker with Connecticut College (65 points).
“Today, we saw a light and shifty southerly breeze that gave us tricky conditions,” Rees said. “We have learned a lot about the venue these past two days and look forward to giving it our all for the finals.”
The ICSA Gill Coed National Championship is slated for June 2-3 and racing begins tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. (PT) / 1:30 p.m. (ET).
