Dover, Del. (Dec. 9, 2019) --- Delaware State first-year women’s head lacrosse coach Pamella Jenkins has announced that four current high school standouts have taken advantage of the early signing period to commit to the Hornets and attend the University beginning next fall.
The list includes two attackers, two defenders and a midfielder.
Signing to attend DSU in 2020 are local high school product Bryanna Stamas, a defender from Dover High School, attacker Mayerlin Santos from Plantation Fla. (Plantation HS), defender Nylah Kelso from Alcoa, Tenn. (Alcoa HS), midfielder Starr Williams from Bowie, Md. (C.H. Flowers HS) and attacker Rosella Nardi of Kingston, N.Y. (Kingston HS).
“We were fortunate in the short time we had, thanks to hard work and contacts throughout the country, to attract a solid group for our 2021 team,” said Jenkins, who was hired as the third head coach in the eight-year history of DSU women’s lacrosse last August. “Mayerlin (Santos) and Rosella (Nardi) have the potential to be big-time scorers at the college level. Nylah (Kelso) and Bryanna (Stamas) are highly skilled defenders, while Starr (Williams) is an outstanding all-around athlete. ”
Three of the early signees will also bring extensive travel/club team experience to the Hornets.
In addition to her high school, Santos competes for the BlueRosesLax club team. Nardi is a member of the Cobra Kai lacrosse club and Kelso lists Smoky Mountain Shine Lacrosse on her bio.
As for the upcoming 2020 DSU lacrosse season, Jenkins says she expects to have 20-25 players on the roster.
The Hornets will play their first two 2020 games at home, beginning with the opener against Lafayette on Feb. 15. Game two is also at Alumni Stadium against Longwood on Feb. 17.
DSU will play nine of its 17 games at home during the 2020 season.
