POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. — (Box Score) No. 2 Oregon Tech scored the first eight points and never trailed in earning a 100-67 win over Saint Francis (Ind.) in the quarterfinals of the NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball National Championship.

The 100-point effort was the most scored in a quarterfinal game since 1998 and the fourth most overall (since 1992). Oregon Tech, with a record 31 wins at the championship, advances to its fifth semifinal with a 32-4 record.

Oregon Tech jumped out to an eight point lead, all scored by freshman Bobby Hunter, who netted 19 of his game-high 24 points in the first half. Saint Francis cut the lead to five (25-20), but the Hustlin’ Owls quickly pushed the lead back to double digits and closed on a 16-5 run to hold a 52-33 halftime lead.

The Hustlin’ Owls left little doubt to the outcome at the start of the second half, putting the game away with an 18-5 run and led by 30 or more for the final 15 minutes.

Oregon Tech shot 53 percent for the game and went 11-for-22 from beyond the arc. Jason Gamblin put in 20 points and Kyle Gomez added 15 points and eight rebounds coming off the bench. The Hustlin’ Owls held a huge 42-21 advantage on the boards.

Saint Francis was led by Ethan Hussey with 19 points and Qadr Owens scored 14. The Cougars, the only unseeded team left in the quarterfinals, end the season with a 23-13 record.

The Hustlin’ Owls will play either No. 3 Davenport (Mich.) or No. 6 Cardinal Stritch (Wis.) in the semifinals on Monday, March 12 at 8:00pm.
