Hot Shooting Carries Warner Past Indiana East

POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. - Malcolm Campbell scored a tournament-best 29 points in leading No. 15 Warner (Fla.) to an 84-63 win over Indiana East in the first round of the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball National Championship. The 2012 event is being played at the Keeter Gymnasium on the campus of College of the Ozarks.

Cambell made 12-of-16 field goal attempts and put in 5-of-9 free throws en route to the highest scoring output of the tournament through two days. The senior forward also pulled down 11 rebounds and had two blocked shots.

Warner used an early 21-6 run to pull ahead for good and led by as much as 10 in the first half. A three-pointer by Marcus Isaac after an Indiana East offensive rebound put the score at 37-30 at halftime.

The Royals pushed the lead to double digits within the first few minutes of the second half. Leading 59-45, Indiana East made one final charge and cut the lead down to nine but Campbell scored six of the next eight points for Warner as they become the third The Sun Conference team to advance to the second round.

Warner shot 53% for the game, including a remarkable 67% in the second half. Ray Victor added 12 points and Bryce Kachinski made three of the Royals four three-pointers and scored 11. Warner held a 46-30 advantage on the boards.

Indiana East was led by sophomore Matt Trimnell with 21 points and six rebounds. Marcus Isaac netted 12 for the Red Wolves but made just 2-of-10 three-point attempts. Indiana East struggled from the floor, shooting just 31%, 20% from the three-point line. They finish the year with a 24-5 overall record and were playing in their second national tournament.

Warner improves to 24-10 overall and will play No. 2 Oregon Tech on Friday at 1:45 p.m. CST.
