ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Weeks after his decorated collegiate career came to an end, University of New Mexico men’s golfer Gavin Green continues to earn national accolades. The three-time All-American was named to the prestigious All-Nicklaus Team. Green is one of just 24 golfers from all levels of competition, from NCAA Division I to NAIA, to earn a spot on the team.
The recent alumnus of the Lobo Golf program was just one of eleven men’s golfers selected from the NCAA Division I level. Green was the only Mountain West golfer to earn the accolade and joined SMU’s Bryson Dechambeau as the only non-BCS conference selections from the NCAA Division I level.
The 2014-15 MW Golfer of the Year was one of eleven golfers in the nation named to PING’s All-American First Team earlier this month. He was selected to the PING All-America Second Team as a junior and Golf Coaches Association of America Third Team All-American as a sophomore.
The native of Malaysia tallied three tournament victories this season, which made him New Mexico’s all-time leader in wins with eight. He also posted ten finishes in the top 10 as a senior and was consistently ranked as one of the top-rated amateur players in the country.
His success was not just limited to American soil; Green posted top 50 finishes at the Malaysian Open during his career and finished as the top amateur in those fields.
Green’s award is the fifth All-America title earned by the Lobo Men’s Golf program in the last four years. Green took home the distinction in 2015, 2014 and 2013 while James Erkenbeck (2013) and John Catlin (2012) round out UNM’s quintet of All-American honors.
