XC's Beamer, Greth Named to C-USA All-Academic Team

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte cross country runners Zach Greth and Daniel Beamer have each earned a spot on the six-man Conference USA All-Academic Team, as announced by league officials Friday morning.

Charlotte was the only school to name more than one athlete on the men's side, tying with WKU, who placed two women.

Greth is a repeat selection, after earning a spot on the elite  team in 2013, and is a two-time C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll member, as well as two-time C-USA Academic Medal winner. The redshirt senior has made Chancellor's List, Dean's List, and the AD's list every semester, and was also a member of the Commissioner's Honor Roll when Charlotte was still a part of the Atlantic 10 conference.

Coming back from a 2013 NCAA Southeast Regional appearance, the Reading, Pa., native redshirted last season and has responded in 2015 with four solid performances, helping the 49er men take home first at the Charlotte Invitational (1st/11) and 2nd at Wake Forest Invite(2nd/18) against several ranked squads. He shaved seven seconds off time between the Charlotte Invite (26:34.00,16th overall) and WF Invite (26:27.44, 66th overall), and placed in the Top 40 at the C-USA Cross Country Championships in October.

Greth maintains a 3.97 GPA- the highest in the league- as a psychology major with a minor in sociology, and is also a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), an organization on college campuses that allows student-athletes to get involved with the local community, the school, and gives them a voice in NCAA governance. He also volunteers a local hospital.

Beamer, as a sophomore, is a first time selection and is Charlotte's current OrthoCarolina Student Athlete of the Week. The Durham, N.C., native highlighted a stellar sophomore campaign by earning All-C-USA Third Team distinction at the C-USA Championships last month, and has placed in the Top 10 in two of four meets this season, while placing in the Top 30 in every meet.

Beamer, who set a personal best at the C-USA championships, is also a member of SAAC and has also been recognized by the Belk College of Business for his success in both the classroom and on the course. He too has made the Chancellor's List, Dean's List, and AD's List every semester of his college career, and earned both the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll placement and the C-USA Academic Medal last year.

Both Greth and Beamer will participate in the 2015 NCAA Southeast Regionals this afternoon in Charlottesville, Va.
